APHKHAZETI – Georgian State Ballet, Choir and Orchestra

APHKHAZETI is a unique fusion of Georgian dance, deeply rooted in the nation’s traditions, with contemporary choreography and music. With a history spanning nearly a century, the ensemble was officially founded in 1931 and has continuously performed around the world, bringing audiences the very best of Georgian culture – its traditions, folklore, and extraordinary energy.

The war in Abkhazia forced the artists to relocate to Tbilisi in 1992. Despite these challenges, APHKHAZETI preserved its character, artistic excellence, and distinctive identity.

A new chapter in the ensemble’s history began in March 2021 with the appointment of the young and talented Artistic Director, the renowned Bachana Chanturia. He invited leading Georgian composers to collaborate on creating a unique musical repertoire for the company.

On 5 June 2026, Prague will host the only APHKHAZETI performance, presented for the very first time on the circular stage of the ultra-modern Nova Spirála venue. The uniqueness of this event lies in its format: the dancers will perform in exceptionally close proximity to the audience, creating an intense sense of presence and connection with the artists. For this special stage, the ensemble is preparing an exclusive programme that will reveal the dynamism and energy of Georgian dance in an entirely new way. Ethnic traditions, ballet, and modern artistic expression will come together in a spectacular show unlike anything previously seen in the Czech Republic.
